Area 2:Classic Scene
Zone 5: Mountain Line Views: Tunnels and Bridges
After passing Sanyi, the Taiwan Western Railway enters terrains covered with hills, mountains and valleys, where nine tunnels run through. The tunnels were difficult to build, so Mountain Line was the last section of the Taiwan Western Railway to be completed. The Sancha River region (today's Sanyi) features hills and mountains at altitudes between 400 and 500 meters, full of valleys and barely having any vast plain. The Sancha River (Sanyi)-Huludun (today's Fengyuan) section was therefore built at the low-lying areas along the hillsides. The rails run through tunnels and on bridges, such as the classic Yutengping Railway Bridge, Neishechuan Railway Bridge and the consecutive tunnels, to pass the aforementioned valleys and mountains. Shiliufen Signation Station was built on the flatter terrain at the north side (adjacent to today’s Shengxing Station). The station was rebuilt into a parking lot (train station) afterwards.
