Area 2:Classic Scene
Zone 4: Sea Line and Classic Wooden Train Stations
Completed and opened to traffic in 1922, Sea Line, which was the middle section of the Taiwan Western Railway, started from today's Zhunan Station and ends at Changhua Station. Given that the terrains between these two stations were too steep for freight trains carrying heavy loads to run on Mountain Line, and the Mountain Line was overwhelmed due to the large amount of freight in 1919 (the 8th year of the rule of Japanese Emperor Taisho), the Taiwan Sotokufu started to build the Sea Line, which was opened to traffic in 1922 (the 11th year of the rule of Japanese Emperor Taisho). The flat terrains along Sea Line not only facilitated freight transport but also benefited passenger transport; rail transport has since become a major means of conveying passengers.
Sea Line of the Taiwan Western Railway basically runs along shorelines, thus allowing passengers to admire the beautiful views of the Taiwan Strait. In addition, given that Western Taiwan is covered with rivers running east-west, bridges were built for railways running north-south. Hence, passengers taking Sea Line can not only enjoy sea views, but also scenes of rivers from elevated bridges, which have become another major characteristic of Sea Line.
