Before the Journey Begins
The construction of railways in Taiwan was based on military, colonize and industry. Many kinds of railway maps and travel brochures were also published to increase revenue.
At that moment, the passenger service on Trunk Line had three classes, and the fare was much more expensive than in the Mainland of Japan. The fare for third class coach from Taipei to Tainan was equivalent to a temporary worker’s half month salary.
