Zone 6: Hsinchu; Taipei
The function of Neiwan Branch Line has transformed from freight transport to passenger transport and tourism. The filming of the movie The Green, Green Grass of Home in Neiwan and the boom of the cultural industry, such as the famous manga Grand Aunty, have made Neiwan take on a new look.
The Danshui Branch Line was the first branch line of Taiwan’s railways. Due to the Taipei MRT construction project, Danshui Branch Line stopped providing rail transport service and was transformed into the MRT Danshui Line. On the last day of its operation on July 15, 1988, many people came and took photos of the Danshui Branch Line. Beitou Branch Line was also transformed into MRT Xinbeitou Line, which facilitated the development of the famous Beitou hot spring industry. Scooter cab service, a special means of transport, has been developed in response to the need to move around the many narrow streets and alleys of Beitou. MRT trains running along Danshui Line pass through the famous landmark Zhunghua Mall when entering Taipei City.
